Music Network: ‘The Wealth of Music & Health’

Music Network welcomes you to ‘The Wealth of Music & Health’ a day-long seminar, preceded by a day of workshops, exploring the advances in practice and expertise of Irish musicians involved in the Music in Healthcare Settings: Training Trainers Programme, their potential impact on healthcare settings in Ireland and the European context for their work.

The Music in Healthcare settings Training Trainers Programme is a project coordinated by Musique & Santé, Paris and delivered in partnership with the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, UK, Music Network, Ireland and the Turku University of Applied Sciences, Turku, Finland. The Programme is supported by the Leonardo da Vinci Lifelong Learning Transfer of Innovation of the European Commission (2010-1-FR1-LE005-11475).

The Music & Health landscape in Ireland

In 2010, the National Centre for Arts & Health at Tallaght Hospital, Dublin hosted an exciting new residency funded by The Arts Council of Ireland. Ian Wilson was composer-in-residence in the Stroke Unit for 3 months, with the Irish Chamber Orchestra also in residence at the hospital conducting open rehearsals of the work with patients and staff. The result of this residency was a new Wilson composition entitled Bewitched for Soprano & String Quartet. The piece is based on the experiences of patients with stroke and staff of the unit. Contributions from patients and staff in the Age Related Health Care Unit were crucial to the development of this new work.
