In the framework of the inter-ministerial programme « Culture in hospital », the organisation Musique et Santé , directed by Philippe Bouteloup, leads artistic activities in hospitals and in settings for the handicapped, for children, teenagers, adults, and the elderly.
Musique et Santé's main areas of work are: the creation of musical workshops by professional musicians, the professional training of hospital staff and artists, the research and reflection on the role of music in medical environment, the interaction between musicians, hospitals, and other institutions. Musique et Santé works in neonatology, paediatrics, paedopsychiatry, geriatrics, and in settings for the handicapped, in France and in Europe. It has for partners the organisations Arts for Health (United Kingdom) and Waterford Healing Arts Trust (Ireland).
Music in hospital participates in the relational care of hospitalised persons.
Musique et Santé has for patrons Steve Waring, Jean-Jacques Milteau, and Dédé Saint-Prix, musicians, and Pr Marcel Rufo, paedopsychiatrist.
